Male The Crimson-crested Woodpecker makes a large, oval nest entrance, which facilitates that araçaris (Pteroglossus) are hole competitors. The head design of males is charactericed by a great extension of red, with no black stripe on crown, and the presence of the oval mark on the cheek, substituted by a white stripe on females. It's also shown the detail of how the tail acts as a support.
