Male Differently from other similar Lagonosticta in south Africa, the red of underparts only occupies the breast, being the rest grey. Face and bill also have the pinkish tinge, stronger on males. Characteristic bright white spotting on breast. Greyish brown upperparts. Female can be separated from male by less intensity of red on breast.
