Juvenile male
Two very similar species in Costa Rica. Calliphlox bryantae differs, in the male, on a green pectoral band and, in the female, on the absence of spotting on throat. Selasphorus flammula is almost identical, the male has violet throat and flanks without ochre, female has greyish flanks, with no brown, and the central pair of rectrices green on its upper side.
