Adult
Small, uniformly greyish brown plumage, very pale on underparts and darker on upperparts. Several very visible scarlet green feathers on wing. Grey head. No sexual dimorphism. Other two species almos identical, but only T. chalcospilos occurs in the Okavango Delta. It coincide with T. afer on east Africa, which is identical salving its red bill. T. abyssinicus occurs more in the north and doesn't coindice with them.
