General features Small (21 cm). Brown upperparts, with pale feather tips and a white, broad, well visible stripe on the scapulars. White underparts with barred breast and spotted abdomen. Barred head, with white superciliary lines and yellow eyes. Juvenile is very similar to adults, with less marked spotting on underparts. There's a very similar species in the region, G. perlatum, but it has streaked instead of spotted underparts, and spotted instead of barred head.
