Female Endemic to Costa Rica and Panama. Green upperparts, pale underparts. Strongly streaked gorget, differently to male, which shows a very bright violet color varying with the subspecies (three different ones occur in Costa Rica). Very similar to S. scintilla, but S. flammula has distinctive green central rectrices, shown in the second part of the sequence.
