General features
Bronzy green upperparts, brown tail with green central pair, black subterminal band and white terminal one. Black masc with small superciliary line and white malar stripe. Uniformly rufous underparts with paler throat. No sexual dimorphism. Similar Phaethornis striigularis has rufous instead of greenish upperparts and a very different tail pattern. Threnetes ruckeri is also similar but with grey abdomen, which contrasts strongly with the rufous throat.
