Ferruginous Pygmy-owl (Glaucidium brasilianum)
Gmelin, 1788. 13 subspecies recognized, here are shown ridgwayi (Costa Rica) and the nominal one (Brazil).
General features General plumage brown, with very striated underparts and white belly. Soft white spotting on head and well marked superciliary lines. Yellow iris, bill and legs. Small eyes in comparision with the habitual in Strigidae. Very small owl with relatively long tail.
