Female Very small, 8 cm. The white malar stripe and black throat are diagnostic and are not presented by any other Hummingbird in Costa Rica. Breast and vent with black and green mixed. Green upperparts with a white stripe on rump and black supracaudal coverts and tail. White tips of external rectrices. The male is completely green with a blue pectoral band, the same pattern on rump and a very long tail.
