Geographical variation Very large and slim heron, with long legs and neck. Completely white plumage, with yellow eye and bill in winter plumage. Greenish lores and black legs. Here are shown two subspecies: alba occurs from Europe to Central Asia and egretta, in all the American continent. They differ only in breeding plumage, when alba turns it's bill black, which doesn't happen in the American race.
