Nest building It breeds in numerous groups, of tens or hundreds of individuals. The colony uses to be placed in buildings or bridges, also in ciffs. The nest is a closed chamber with a small entrance hole, differing from the one of the Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica), which is completely opened on the top, or that of the Red-rumped Swallow (Cecropis daurica), which is also closed but with a tubular entrance.
