Size: between 42 cm (Buff-browed Chachalaca, Ortalis superciliaris) and 92 cm (Black Curassow, Ortalis superciliaris).

Distribution: Neotropical region and south of Nearctic.

Habitat: humid forestal areas, mainly in the canopy and in the interior of the forest. Also gallery forest. No migration, but local movements in response to food or water availability.

Feeding: Leaves, flowers, stems, fruits and seeds. Sometimes invertebrates. Rarely small amphibians or rodents.

Breeding: Nest made of sticks and leaves. Monogamous. 2-4 eggs. Incubation 21-36 days. Sexual maturity at the second year of life.

Threat status: 17 threatened species (3 Critically Endangered, 7 Endangered and 7 Vulnerable). 1 Extinct in the Wild. [+info]
