General features Completely black, with red eye and strongly forked tail. Only another Drongo occurs in Senegal and The Gambia, D. ludwigii, which is separated easily by the square tail and more intense iris coloration. D. modestus is practically identical, but it occurs from Sierra Leone to the south. No sexual dimorphism, juvenile has a more brounish black and less forked tail.
