General features
Very tall and slim, although medium-sized in its family, a bit more than 1 m tall and with a wingspan of almost 2 m. Very long legs and neck, yellowish bill and orangish eye. Uniformly grey plumage, darker on tail. Black face, throat and anterior side of neck. Red crown and black nape, contrasting with the white sides of head and posterior neck. Same pattern in both sexes. The immature individuals differ in the brown head and neck, lacking the marks of the adults. Three immatures appear in the last part of the sequence.
