General features Uniform brownish grey upperparts, Pale underparts with greish breast and chestnut flanks. Yellowish throat bordered by a black stripe. Black iris and lores. Black bill with bright red base. In flight, white rump and broad, chestnut area in the underwing. One species almost identical, G. maldivarum, but is distributed along southeast Asia and Australia, they don't coincide in range. Another very similar one, G. nordmanni, whith whom it coincides in the wintering area, differs on a completely black underwing.
