Medium-sized Owl, relatively small head and very small "ears" rarely visible. Yellow iris. Brown upperparts with abundant pale marks, white underparts with black streaks, with orangish brown breast. It can resemble Long-eared Owl, but apart from the habitat (A. flammeus occupies open fields while A. otus is more forestal), that one has larger and more visible "ears", orangish facial disc, orange iris and darker general coloration.
