Adult Completely black, smaller than C. major and without the strong iridescences, little blue on upperparts, specially on the borders of the mantle feathers. Vertically flattened bill, very bulky on the upper mandible. Very similar to C. sulcirostris, but they don't coincide in Pantanal. Juveniles differ in the absence of the strong bulging.
