Adult Greyish brown upperpars, with white rump. Pure black wings with a broad yellow band, conspicuous in all plumages. The tertials present broad white borders which are completely worn in this individual (that will start soon its complete moult) due to the absence of melanin, which causes a stronger abrasion than in the rest of black wing. Red face with black mask, rest of head white salving the black crown, nape and sides of neck. Pale underparts with brown on flanks and breast. Sexes identical in the field, being separated in hand by the shape and extension of the red of face.
