Adult As the rest of Crotophaga, completely black. Blue iridescences on breast and wings. Vertically flattened, high bill, with marked grooves on upper mandible. In Costa Rica, it can be confused with C. ani, but this one is a bit larger and lacks the bill grooves. There's no sexual dimorphism and juveniles differ from adults in the lack of bill grooves, being in this case the separation with C. ani more difficult.
