Male Green general coloration, paler and strongly barred on underparts. Very white cheeks. Male with grey crown, red superciliary lines joined on nape and red malar stripe. Female has red nape, but lacks superciliary line and malar stripe. It could be confused with male P. simplex, but this one has not white cheeks, has all red crown and yellow iris.
