Non breeding plumage
Completely white, but differs from A. alba in a notable smaller size and the black bill in winter plumage. B. ibis is also white, but of a smaller size, yellow bill and pale legs. As well as the Snowy Egret of the Neotropics, the Little Egret has black legs with yellow feet. The breeding plumage is distinguishable by the development of long occipital plumes and ornamental tufts on breast and back.
