Male Very terrestrial woodpecker, typical of open lands, usually foraging in pastures. The sexual dimorphism is very slight, being sometimes difficult to determine the sex. The male presents a red moustache, but not very marked as occurs in other picids with this feature. The female doen't present any red tinge in the malar region.
