Size: Between 23 cm (Oriental Bay-Owl, Phodilus badius) and 57 cm (Australian Masked-Owl, Tyto novaehollandiae).
Distribution: All continents salving Antarctica. Resident.
Habitat: Very varied. Forestal areas and semiopen ones, deserts, urban ambients.
Feeding: From large insects to small vertebrates of all types.
Breeding: On the ground or on a shelf of a rock, tree or old building. 2-11 eggs. Incubation 27-34 days.
