Size: Between 15 cm (Lesser Jacana, Microparra capensis) and 58 cm (Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Hydrophasianus chirurgus).
Distribution: Neotropical, Afrotropical, Oriental and Australasian Regions. Only one migratory species.
Habitat: Wetlands with slow-moving waters and floating vegetation.
Feeding: Aquatic insects and invertebrates. They also include seeds in the diet.
Breeding: Floating platform built with aquatic vegetation. 2-4 eggs. Incubation 21-26 days.
