Size: Between 46 cm (Whispering Ibis, Phimosus infuscatus) and 104 cm (Giant Ibis, Pseudibis gigantea).
Distribution: All continents, salving Australia. Generally, tropical species are sedentary, being migratory the ones in temperate zones.
Habitat: Aquatic slow water habitats, as estuaries, lagoons, mangroves or river margins. Also agricultural lands like rice fields.
Feeding: Aquatic insects, larvae, crustaceans, molluscs, small fish and amphibians.
Breeding: Almost always colonial. Monogamous. 2-5 eggs. Incubation 20-31 days. Nestling period 28-56 days. Sexual maturity 2-4 years.
