Male
The shape of the black area on face separates it from the rest of Ploceus in The Gambia: it covers the forehead until the eye, extending behind to the auriculars and becoming narrow again in the throat. It is the smallest of the family. The adult male has dark red iris and completely yellow underparts. Female lacks black mask, it has white abdomen and dirty upper crown.
