Size: Between 17 cm (Small Pratincole, Glareola lactea) and 29 cm (Bronze-winged Courser, Rhinoptilus chalcopterus).

Distribution: Palearctic, Afrotropical, Oriental and Australasian Regions. Pratincoles (subfamily Glareolinae) are migratory and Coursers (subfamily Cursoriinae) are sedentary.

Habitat: Open arid areas or low scrubland ones.

Feeding: Insects and other invertebrates.

Breeding: The nest is a small depression on the ground. 2-3 eggs. Incubation 17-31 days. Nestling period 25-35 days.
