Size: Between 9 cm (Green Tinkerbird, Pogoniulus simplex) and 27 cm (Black-breasted Barbet, Lybius rolleti).

Distribution: Afrotropical Region. Sedentary, some species undertake dispersive postbreeding movements or in function of food availability.

Habitat: Forestal. Dense wooded areas and scrubland.

Feeding: Insects, fruit and nectar. Some large species also include small vertebrates in the diet.

Breeding: The nest is placed in a cavity dug in a tree, bank or termite nest. 1-6 eggs. Incubation 12-19 days.
