Size: Between 15 cm (Least Nighthawk, Chordeiles pusillus) and 40 cm (Great Eared-nightjar, Eurostopodus macrotis).

Distribution: All regions salving Antarctica. Due to the great dependence on insects, the species breeding in temperate areas are migratory, while in tropical regions they tend to be sedentary.

Habitat: Forest borders, savannas, deserts. Some more forestal.

Feeding: Flying insects, captured in flight at night.

Breeding: They don't build a nest, laying the eggs on the ground. 1-2 eggs. Incubation 16-22 days. Nestling period 16-30 days.
