Size: Between 75 cm (Abdim's Stork, Ciconia abdimii) and 152 cm (Greater Adjutant, Leptoptilos dubius).

Distribution: All regions salving Antarctica, with more diversity in tropical areas. Few migratory species, but most of them carry out local movements in response to food abundance.

Habitat: Very varied wetlands, from savannas to forestal areas.

Feeding: Fish, amphibians, other small vertebrates and aquatic insects.

Breeding: Large platform made of sticks and other vegetal materials. 1-5 eggs. Incubation 25-38 days. Nestling period 35-115 days.
