Size: Between 9 cm (Pygmy Blue-flycatcher, Muscicapella hodgsoni) and 22 cm (Nimba Flycatcher, Melaenornis annamarulae).

Distribution: Palearctic, Afrotropical, Oriental and Australasian Regions. As being very dependent on insect abundance, the species of temperate regions are migratory, while the ones of tropical areas are sedentary, due to the availability of this prey all year long.

Habitat: Forest and scrubland.

Feeding: Insects.

Breeding: Some species biuld a cup on a tree branch, other ones nest in cavities (not constructed by themselves). 1-8 eggs. Incubation 12-14 days. Nestling period 11-16 days.
