Size: Between 2 cm (Least Auklet, Aethia pusilla) and 43 cm (Thick-billed Murre, Uria lomvia).

Distribution: N Pacific, N Atlantic and Arctic oceans. Very variable migratory patterns among species and populations, from strong sedentarism to long migrations.

Habitat: During breeding season, remote islands and capes. Out of that season, open seas and coasts.

Feeding: Fish and marine invertebrates. They fish through divings from sea surface.

Breeding: No nest is built, they lay the eggs on a shelf of a coastal cliff or in cracks. 1-2 eggs. Incubation 29-46 days. Nestling period 2-50 days.

Threat status: 5 threatened species (1 Critically Endangered, 1 Endangered and 3 Vulnerable). 1 Extinct. [+info]
