Distribution: All continents, salving Antarctica. Many species are sedentary and other ones are migratory (mainly in genus Falco).

Habitat: Very varied, from dense tropical forests to deserts.

Feeding: Large arthropodes and small vertebrates, almost always hunted alive. Some Caracaras are scavengers and also include vegetal items in the diet.

Breeding: The majority of the species don't construct a nest, they lay the eggs in cavities, shelfs in rocks or in abandoned nests of other birds. Caracaras build a vegetal platform. Incubation 28-35 days. Nestling period 28-55 days.
