Distribution: Nearctic, Palearctic and Oriental regions. Sedentary, only short dispersive movements of juveniles.

Habitat: Forestal. Two species inhabit cliffs and other rocky areas.

Feeding: Mainly insectivorous, they include seeds in the diet.

Breeding: They nest in existing or, in a minority of cases, self-built cavities. 4-8 eggs. Incubation around 13-18 days.
